This residential estate development comprises 34 No. detached and semi-detached 3, 4 and 5-bedroom homes with associated private gardens, access roads and driveways. The housing mix consists of 22 private dwellings and 12 housing association homes. The development is set within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in a quiet corner of East Sussex.
Springett Associates were appointed consulting engineers for the project, and have a long history of designing residential estates.
The underlying strata meant that a traditional foundation solution was possible, using strip footings. There were complexities within the scheme and these included plinths at ground floor level which required careful detailing, and differences in topography across the site which required external and internal retaining walls. A cut-and-fill exercise was carried out which helped to reduce the impact of these retaining walls.
